Alcatel-Lucent has been selected by Togo Cellulaire, the largest mobile operator in Togo, for an expansion and upgrade of its 2G/3G network, including the rollout of HSPA+ technology. Work will also involve boosting GSM/EDGE capacity and coverage, as well as providing new microwave links to address the growing demand for advanced mobile Internet services through an all-IP broadband network. The project is the latest phase of a multimillion-euro wireless broadband network transformation deal awarded to the French-US vendor last year. Togo Cellulaire has more than 1.6 million subscribers, 99 percent of which are prepaid, and the company claims a mobile market share of around 70 percent in the country.
